US tariffs: a test of resilience for the Brazilian fruit sector

The 50% tariff on Brazilian fresh fruits exported to the United States, in effect since August 6, 2025, is one of the greatest tests of resilience ever faced by the national sector. This increase results from the combination of a 40% tax announced in July with the 10% tariff already applied, pressing significantly the sector’s competitiveness.   Despite the challenging scenario, the partial continuation of mango and grape exports – the main fresh fruits shipped to the US – even with higher costs and reduced margins, prevents, in the short term, a collapse in the production chain
